Venice is divided in 6 districts and street numbers are numbered according to districts and no to streets or roads. It's impossible, anyway, know an address without know which is the name of street or if it is near a famous momument or Palace or shop. In fact also the postman many times use a map of venice to find the receiver of letters. Signs that indicate the name of streets, squares and canal are called "nissioeti"(in Venetian "nissioeti" means sheets). In fact the "nissioeti" look like small sheets painted on the wall. They are written in Venetian dialect and their translation it's very particular: a name of street can be dedicated to an old trade, to a myth, to a old shop or to an event happened in the past. House numbers are an impossible thing to understand even for postmen!!
